I have been using the concept of simple rules with teams in my coaching practice to great success. But, surprisingly yo me, the simple rules seem to be powerful for clients in a 1:1 setting. I coach a CEO who was under the allusion that everything he did (or didn't do) moved (or failed to move) the organisation forward.
I began teaching him a bit about complexity and simple rules. By the end of the session he decided to create his own rule - acknowledge complexity. With this rule he shifts the container of his thginking and the pattern of behavior changes. In our next session, I will challenge him to create a rule about differences and exchanges.
Does any one else use the simple rules in 1:1 consulting or coaching? I'd love to hear about it if you do.
